KNOW YOUR SUPPLY CHAIN in 3 STEPS – MASTERING the 3Ps
You don’t have to be an expert to know your Supply Chain(s). Most businesses often leave it to their Freight Forwarders, their Couriers (such as DHL, FDX or UPS), or their Customs Brokers to tell them about their SUPPLY CHAIN. Freight Forwarder, Courier, and Customs broker inputs are important and their expertise is invaluable for YOU to KNOW YOUR SUPPLY CHAIN.
PRESENCE (The Who)
The WHO that can ship and Export from origin and the WHO that will receive or Import at destination. The WHO at each end may be:
- An individual
- A small business
- A company
- A third party or agency providing a special service
- An entity fully or partially established
PRODUCT (The What)
What you are moving from place to place.
This could be a consumer product you’re bringing to market, a successful item you want to scale to other region, or each part you bring together to test, review, validate, or manufacture.
PRODUCT details are a critical piece in RETHINKING and RENEWING your Supply Chain.

THE BASICS
Every Supply Chain, regardless of how small, large, simple or complex, has a Beginning & End. This Beginning & End may have multiple subsections, EACH with a Beginning & End. Each Beginning & End has NO LESS than 7 touchpoints to consider to:
- EXPORT (from origin)
- IMPORT (at destination)
This is true for all Shipments. Most important if your shipments start in one country and end in another.
